We stock and install BFT-compatible welding and fabrication parts across Houston, with most bracket, hinge, and gate-frame repairs running between $180 and $540 installed depending on the extent of the fabrication work. Same-day service is available in most cases when we have the part on the truck, which we usually do for common BFT swing and slide gate hardware. You’ll know you’re in welding-and-fabrication territory when the gate still hums and tries to move, but the metal itself has given up: a cracked hinge plate, a torn weld at the operator mount, or a post that’s rusted through at the base where Houston’s humidity and soil moisture never really let up.
Before anything gets cut or welded, we write the price down and go over it with you line by line. That’s how Cody Beckman has run every job since bringing Latch and Post to Houston, and it’s not changing.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
The welding and fabrication work we do covers the full range of BFT residential and light-commercial operators: the Phobos and Deimos swing-arm series, the Icaro and Rigel slide-gate operators, and the Sub underground swing systems that show up on a lot of Houston driveways in the Heights and Memorial areas. On the slide-gate side, we also fabricate rack mounts and end-stop brackets for BFT track systems that have been in the ground for a decade or more.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most homeowners hit: the mounting plate on a Phobos N series is not interchangeable with the earlier Phobos A series, even though the arms look nearly identical. We’ve seen people buy a used plate off a parts forum and find the bolt pattern off by a half inch. Before you order anything, look for the silver rating sticker on the operator housing: it lists the exact model and serial. Take a photo of it and we’ll confirm the right mounting hardware or fabricated plate on the first call.
For steel gate frames, posts, and hinge assemblies, we fabricate from matched gauge stock rather than bolting on a universal bracket. The difference matters: a universal bracket flexes, and in Houston’s rain-and-sun cycles that flex turns into a crack within a couple of years. A welded plate cut to the existing post profile distributes the load and lasts as long as the gate itself.
We’re an independent service provider, not a BFT affiliate or authorized BFT reseller. That said, we work on BFT equipment every week, and we source OEM BFT parts where they matter for fit and refined aftermarket equivalents where the metallurgy is identical and the price is lower. We’ll tell you which is which and why.

Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate moves but makes a sharp clack at the start or end of travel. Usually this is a cracked hinge or a broken weld at the operator mount. The motor pulls, the metal shifts against itself, and the crack opens just enough to make noise before closing again.
- Rust staining runs down from a hinge or bracket even after rain has dried. Houston’s humidity keeps steel wet longer than most cities. When you see a rust streak, the crack or pinhole is already letting water sit inside the joint, and the metal is thinning from the inside out.
- One corner of the gate sags, and the gap at the latch side widens from top to bottom. That’s a hinge post leaning or a hinge leaf bending. On a BFT swing gate, the operator compensates for a while, then the limit switch starts cutting out early because the geometry has changed.
- The operator mount wiggles when you push on the arm by hand. A loose mount means the weld or the anchoring bolts have worked free. Running the gate this way transmits every cycle of force into the operator gearbox, which is a much more expensive repair than the mount itself.
- You find metal flakes or small rust chips on the ground below a hinge or bracket. That’s accelerated wear, not normal aging. Once metal is flaking, the load-bearing surface area is shrinking, and the gate gets harder for the BFT motor to move every week.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Houston, expect most BFT welding and fabrication repairs to land between $180 and $540 installed. A simple hinge replacement with a fabricated bracket usually starts around $180. Reinforcing a cracked operator mount or re-welding a gate frame typically runs $250 to $400. Replacing a rusted gate post with new steel, set in concrete and matched to the existing gate, runs $350 to $540 and takes most of a day.
What moves the number: the thickness of the stock we’re matching, whether concrete work is involved, and whether the gate has to come off its hinges for the repair. We’ll show you the exact figure in writing before any work starts, and that number doesn’t move unless we find something hidden and you approve the change first. Every welding and fabrication job is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair isn’t right, we make it right, no argument and no fine print.
DIY or Call Us?
Welding on a gate that’s attached to a BFT operator is not a weekend project, and here’s the honest reason: the gate is under load even when it’s standing still, and a gate that breaks free while you’re working on it weighs more than most people can stop. We’ve also seen DIY welds on gate frames introduce enough heat warping to pull the hinges out of alignment within a week. That’s not a dig at your skills, it’s just what happens when you weld thin-wall tubing without a jig.
What you can safely do: take photos of the cracked or rusted section, check whether the gate still opens in manual release mode, and keep kids and pets away from the swing radius until we get there. Then call us at (361) 256-5955. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a same-day fix or a scheduled fabrication job, and you’ll have a written price before anything gets touched.
FAQs
A properly fabricated and primed weld on a BFT gate typically lasts 8 to 12 years in Houston’s humidity, provided the area stays painted and the hinge points get lubricated once or twice a year. Raw steel left unpainted after a field weld will start rusting within months, which is why we always prime and paint every weld before we leave.
Sometimes yes, when the crack is small and the surrounding metal still measures full thickness. If the bracket is rusted through or the crack runs along a load-bearing seam, replacement is the honest answer and usually the cheaper one in the long run. We’ll show you the part and explain what we’re seeing before we recommend either path.
Most single-bracket or hinge fabrication jobs take 2 to 3 hours on site, including cooling, painting, and re-testing the gate’s full open and close cycle. A full post replacement with concrete work is a 6 to 8 hour job, and we’ll tell you that before you book so you can plan your day.
We carry common mounting plates, hinge leaves, and steel stock on the truck for BFT swing and slide gates, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. Oddball or heavy-gauge pieces may need a day to fabricate in the shop, and we’ll tell you that on the first call. A gate that closes right is one less thing to think about.
If your BFT gate is cracking, sagging, or making noise it didn’t make last year, call Latch and Post Gate Repair Houston at (361) 256-5955. We’ll get you a straight answer, a written price, and a repair that’s done right. Live person answers, any hour.
