Linear Welding & Fabrication: The Houston Owner’s Guide

If you have a Linear gate operator with a cracked hinge, a fatigued mounting bracket, or a broken arm connection, we can fabricate and weld a replacement that matches your system. Most Linear welding and fabrication work in Houston runs between $180 and $420 installed, and we carry common bracket and hinge patterns on the truck so a single visit usually finishes the job. The way owners typically discover this problem is visual: a hairline crack running through a steel bracket, a gate that sags a half-inch more every month, or a metallic creak from the operator arm that wasn’t there last season. You don’t need to know the part number yet. We’ll identify it on site.

We’re an independent gate repair company serving Houston and nearby areas. We’re not affiliated with Linear, but we work on their equipment constantly, and we know which of their welds fail first in this climate.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

Linear’s swing and slide gate operators share a family of steel mounting hardware and hinge assemblies, but there’s a compatibility gotcha that trips up a lot of Houston owners. The bracket geometry changed between the older APeX and LRA/HR series and the newer SWR/STR and SlideR gate operators, and a bracket from one series will bolt to the operator but leave the arm angle wrong by a few degrees. That misalignment is exactly what causes the next weld to crack. If you still have the silver tag on the operator housing, read the model prefix first. If the tag is gone, we measure bolt-hole spacing and arm offset on site to match the correct generation.

For Linear specifically, we’ve seen two consistent truths. First, OEM steel brackets from Linear are decent but the factory powder coating is thin, and unpainted aftermarket brackets rust faster in Houston’s humidity than most people expect. Second, a properly gusseted aftermarket bracket, fabricated locally to spec, will often outlast the OEM part because we weld it heavier and coat it for salt air and rain. When the original part is available and priced reasonably, we’ll use it. When it isn’t, we fabricate to match or improve.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • A crack running through the operator mounting bracket or arm plate. This usually starts at a bolt hole or a 90-degree bend point where vibration concentrates. Linear brackets crack more often in Houston because rust weakens the metal first, then the daily cycle stress opens the crack.
  • The gate sags visibly at the hinge side. A worn or cracked hinge weld lets the gate leaf drop. You’ll notice the latch no longer lines up with the strike, or the gate scrapes the concrete at the closing point.
  • A pronounced creak or grinding sound from the operator arm during travel. That’s often a partially broken weld flexing under load. It sounds metallic and sharp, not like the usual motor hum, and it gets worse over weeks rather than days.
  • The operator arm wobbles where it bolts to the gate leaf. When the arm plate develops slop at the weld, the connection works loose. Tightening the bolts helps for a few days, then the wobble returns because the steel underneath is moving.
  • Rust blisters or bubbling under the paint on any welded joint. This is early-stage failure. In Houston, a painted weld that wasn’t properly prepped will show rust blooms within a year or two, and the metal loss underneath is usually worse than it looks from the surface.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Linear gate hardware in Houston, most welded bracket replacements run $180 to $320. A cracked hinge or arm plate usually lands in that same range. If the failure requires fabricating a custom bracket from scratch, expect $280 to $420 depending on steel thickness, gusseting, and how much time the fit-up takes on an older or slightly out-of-square gate. Every price is written down and agreed to before any work starts. There’s no scenario where you get an invoice larger than the number we discussed.

The price includes removing the failed part, cleaning and prepping the mounting surface, welding or bolting the replacement in place, and testing the gate through several full cycles. We coat any bare steel and raw welds before we leave. All fabrication and installation work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if our weld or bracket fails within a year, Cody Beckman and the crew make it right, no argument and no fine print.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground here, and an honest line. You can safely wipe down the bracket, take clear photos of any cracks with your phone, and note the model tag if it’s still legible. That helps us bring the right steel stock and hardware on the first trip. What you should not attempt is grinding or welding on a gate that’s under tension or still attached to the operator arm. A swing gate that shifts while you’re working under it, or a slide gate that rolls unexpectedly, will hurt you badly. We regularly see cracked brackets that are one good push away from dropping a gate leaf on someone’s legs, and that’s a risk no homeowner should take on with a borrowed welder.

If the crack is small and the gate still operates, take photos and call us at (361) 256-5955. We’ll tell you honestly whether it can wait. If the gate is hanging or the arm is disconnected, shut the operator off at the breaker and call. A gate that closes right is one less thing to think about.
