We stock BFT hinge and roller replacement parts on our trucks and install them across Houston, usually for between $145 and $385 depending on which BFT model you have and how many rollers need swapping. Same-day service is available most days for hinge and roller failures. The way owners usually find us is simple: the gate starts dragging, then it starts screeching, then one day it won’t close all the way and the dog figures it out before you do.
BFT makes solid operators, but the hinges and rollers are the parts that carry the gate’s full weight every single day. Houston humidity accelerates wear on the nylon and rubber components, and once a roller seizes or a hinge pin wallows out, the gate starts fighting the motor. A gate that closes right is one less thing to think about, and this is the page that tells you exactly what’s involved in getting it there.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
BFT hinge and roller replacement applies to their sliding gate lines primarily: the Deimos, Phobos, Ares, and Rigel series all use track-mounted roller carriages that wear over time. Swing gate models like the Sub and Kustos hinge directly to the post, and those hinge assemblies are what we’re replacing there.
The compatibility gotcha with BFT is the roller carriage plate spacing. BFT carriages come in 80mm, 100mm, and 130mm bolt-center configurations depending on the gate’s weight rating, and a carriage off by 10 millimeters will not sit flush. We measure the plate before anything gets ordered. For swing gates, BFT hinges range from light residential (up to 900 lbs per pair) to heavy industrial (2,200+ lbs per pair), and the difference matters because undersized hinges fail fast in Houston’s wet season.
The OEM-versus-aftermarket decision is straightforward for BFT: OEM hinges and rollers are worth the cost on the heavier Deimos and Ares gates. On lighter residential units, quality aftermarket equivalents from manufacturers like ProtoCraft Pro and Gate Depot’s HD line perform just as well and typically save $40 to $80 per assembly. We’ll show you both options and the price, written down, before any work starts.

Signs Your BFT Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing
- The gate scrapes or drags near the closed position. This usually means the roller wheel itself has flat-spotted from sitting in Houston heat, and the wheel is no longer round. A flat-spotted roller can’t roll, so it slides, and the gate sounds like it’s grinding the track.
- A sharp, rhythmic squeal while the gate moves. The sealed bearings inside BFT roller wheels eventually dry out and bind up. Once that happens, the wheel stops spinning and the axle rubs metal on metal, which is the squeal you’re hearing from the driveway.
- The gate sags visibly at the free end. On swing gates, a worn hinge pin allows the gate leaf to drop, and you’ll see the latch no longer lines up with the post. On sliding gates, a collapsed roller drops the whole gate body and the pickets start dragging.
- The operator trips or reverses repeatedly. When hinges or rollers bind, the motor’s current sensing module thinks something is in the way. The BFT control board will reverse the gate or throw a fault, and the problem is mechanical, not electrical.
- Rust streaks below the hinge points. Houston’s humidity plus coastal salt air near Galveston Bay creates a rust environment that eats uncoated steel hinge pins from the inside out. Rust streaks on the post are the tell.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A BFT hinge and roller replacement in Houston runs $145 to $385 for most residential gates. That’s the installed price, including parts and labor, and you’ll see the exact number in writing before we touch anything.
What drives the range is part count and gate weight. A single seized roller on a light Deimos gate is closer to $145. A full hinge and roller set on a heavy Ares sliding gate with four carriages puts you at the higher end, and if we’re replacing the track too because a seized roller gouged it, that adds material cost. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls gates, so if you have more than one gate on the property, we can handle all of it in one visit.
Here’s how the pricing breaks down for Houston BFT gates:
- Single roller wheel replacement: $145 to $195 installed
- Full roller carriage swap (2 carriages): $220 to $320 installed
- Swing gate hinge set (residential): $185 to $285 installed
- Heavy Ares/industrial assembly: $320 to $385+ installed
Every hinge and roller replacement carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If anything isn’t right within a year, we make it right, no argument and no fine print. Cody Beckman has been working on automated gate systems since his days at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and the rule on his crew is the same one he’s always followed: explain the price before the work, then do the work like you’re going to come back and look at it next week.
DIY or Call Us?
You can check a few things yourself without touching a wrench: look at the roller wheels for flat spots, push the gate gently at the free end to feel for play, and listen for that metallic squeal while the gate moves. Those observations help us diagnose faster when you call.
What we don’t recommend is dismounting a heavy gate panel yourself. BFT sliding gates often weigh 400 to 900 pounds, and once the roller carriages come loose, that weight is unguided. A gate that drops on a foot or a pet is a serious injury, and we’d rather you not take that risk. The swap itself takes a technician about 45 to 90 minutes with the right jack stands and leveling tools, and the job is done under the same written-price promise we’ve had since day one. Call (361) 256-5955 and we’ll get it scheduled.
FAQs
Most BFT rollers last 5 to 8 years in Houston before the sealed bearings fail, and hinges typically hold up 8 to 10 years if the gate was installed level and stays adjusted. Gates within 15 miles of the bay tend to lose a year or two to salt corrosion. Call (361) 256-5955 and we’ll inspect yours and tell you exactly where you stand.
A flat-spotted wheel or a seized bearing can’t be repaired; the roller wheel is a sealed unit and gets replaced. A hinge with a worn pin can sometimes be rebuilt with a new pin and bushing, but the cost difference is usually small enough that we recommend a fresh hinge assembly. We’ll show you both options and quote them in writing.
Most BFT hinge and roller replacements take 45 to 90 minutes on site, and we carry common BFT Deimos, Phobos, Ares, and Rigel parts on the truck so there’s no second trip. If your gate needs a heavy industrial assembly or custom carriage spacing, we order it and schedule the install once it arrives.
We stock the common BFT roller wheels, carriages, and hinge sets on our trucks, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls. For unusual gate weights or non-standard plate spacing, we’ll source the part, show you the cost in advance, and schedule the install when it lands.
