We carry and install DoorKing-compatible welding and fabrication parts for gates across Houston, and we match them to your exact operator model before we quote anything. Most welded bracket, hinge, and frame repairs on DoorKing systems here run between $280 and $700 installed, parts included, and we can usually have a technician out the same day you call because we keep the common DoorKing weldments on our trucks. The part that usually brings owners to this page is a gate that starts sagging at the hinge side or a mounting bracket that cracked where it bolts to the post. That crack does not heal itself, and a sagging gate eventually drags the operator out of alignment until the whole system stops responding.
If your DoorKing gate arm or slide assembly is hanging low, making a grinding sound, or you can see a visible crack at a weld joint, we can replace the fabricated component and box the repair so it holds up to Houston heat and humidity. Call (361) 256-5955 for a written price before any work begins.
Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
DoorKing builds three main lines we see regularly in Houston neighborhoods: the slide gate operators (like the 6050, 6100, and 6300 series), the swing gate operators (the 6002 and 6003 series), and the barrier gate arms (the 1601 and 1602 series for parking and controlled access). The welding and fabrication points differ between them. On slide gates, the failure almost always starts at the drive rail bracket or the welded mounting plate where the motor plate meets the concrete pad. On swing gates, it is the hinge plates and the weld where the operator bracket ties into the gate frame. On barrier arms, the fabricated arm section itself takes the abuse, especially the weld at the pivot clevis.
How to identify your part: Look for the silver data tag on the inside of the operator cover. DoorKing stamps the model number and serial there, usually starting with two or three digits followed by a dash. Take a photo of that tag before you call us. Also measure the gate opening width and the post diameter. Those three pieces of information, model number, gate width, and post size, tell us which weldment to pull. On OEM versus aftermarket: DoorKing’s factory weldments are solid, but we have installed both. The OEM part costs more, sometimes 40 to 60 percent more, and for a few components like the 6100 drive rail brackets we have found quality aftermarket fabrications that actually hold up better in Houston’s salt-air corridors near the Ship Channel because they use a heavier powder coat. We carry both and we’ll tell you honestly which one makes sense for your gate.

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags at the latch end. This means a hinge weld has stretched or cracked, usually at the bottom hinge first because that is where the weight concentrates. The gate tilts toward the latch post and the pickets no longer line up with the frame.
- You can see a hairline crack at the bracket-to-post connection. DoorKing slide operators push a lot of force through that small welded bracket. When the weld fails, the crack starts thin and spreads fast, especially after a storm when the gate fights the wind.
- The operator runs but the gate barely moves. A broken weld at the drive rail means the motor turns the gear, but the gear teeth skip against the rail instead of pulling it. You may hear a chattering sound at six in the morning when the opener first engages.
- The gate makes a metal-on-metal knock at each cycle. That knock is usually a fabricated connector that has come loose from its weld and is rattling inside the drive assembly. It is not a lube problem. It is a loose part waiting to bind.
- Rust blooms appear at the weld seams. Bare steel at a failed weld rusts fast in Houston humidity. If you see orange staining around a bracket or hinge, the weld underneath is likely cracked and letting water in.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For most DoorKing welding and fabrication work in Houston, you are looking at $280 to $460 for a single bracket or hinge weldment replacement, and $460 to $700 for a drive rail or full gate frame reinforcement job. The range depends on whether we are working on a slide or swing gate, how much of the old weld has to be ground out, and whether the post itself needs reinforcement. Barrier arm fabrications run a bit less, usually $180 to $350 installed.
Every quote includes the part, the fabrication labor, weld grinding and prep, and a rust-inhibiting finish coat. You get the exact number in writing before we touch anything, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work. If that weld does not hold, we come back and make it right. No argument, no fine print. Call (361) 256-5955 and we’ll give you a straight answer on what your DoorKing repair should cost.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely do is document the problem: photograph the crack, check the data tag, and note whether the gate moves when you manually disengage the operator. That saves us a trip and helps us bring the right weldment the first time. What you should not do is attempt to weld a cracked bracket while the gate is under tension from the door springs or while the operator is still engaged. DoorKing gates carry serious mechanical load, and a weld that pops while you are underneath a swing gate is not a risk worth taking with a borrowed welder.
We show up with the right stock on the truck, grind the old weld clean, and box the new part so it holds true. A gate that closes right is one less thing to think about. Call (361) 256-5955 and we’ll get a technician to your Houston home, usually the same day.
FAQs
In Houston’s climate, a factory DoorKing weldment typically lasts 8 to 12 years before fatigue or rust takes it. Gates within five miles of the Ship Channel or Galveston Bay can see that number drop by a couple of years because of salt in the air, and gates that carry extra weight from added pickets or wood inserts fail earlier.
If you are seeing cracks before the 8-year mark, the gate may be out of balance or the operator may be pushing harder than it should. Call (361) 256-5955 and we’ll check the whole system, not just the cracked part.
Sometimes. If the crack is hairline and the surrounding steel is still sound, we can grind it out and re-weld it in place. If the metal is stretched, rusted through, or the bracket is bent, a patch weld will fail again within months. We will show you the difference and give you a straight recommendation, and the written price covers whichever route we take.
Most single-bracket or hinge replacements take 90 minutes to two hours on site. A drive rail weldment or full frame reinforcement can run three to four hours. We schedule the visit so you know the window, and we clean up before we leave. Drop cloths go down in any interior work area, shoe covers go on at the door, and you get a photo of the clean-up.
We keep the common DoorKing weldments on our Houston service trucks: slide gate drive brackets, swing gate hinge plates, and barrier arm clevis assemblies. If your gate needs a rarely-stocked fabrication, we order it and return within a few days. Either way, the price is written before work starts and there is no charge for the quote. Call (361) 256-5955.
