We stock, match, and install Elite-compatible welding and fabrication parts across Houston, with most hinge, bracket, and weld-repair jobs running $180 – $420 installed depending on the specific part and access. In most cases, we can have a technician at your gate the same day you call, with the right hardware already on the truck. The way owners usually find us is simple: the gate starts dragging, a hinge shears, or a weld cracks at the joint, and suddenly the whole thing hangs wrong and won’t latch.
What’s specific to Elite gates in Houston is the metal’s exposure cycle. We see salt air near Galveston Bay affecting gates in Clear Lake and Seabrook, while inland neighborhoods like Katy and Cypress deal with relentless humidity that gets into every unpainted weld and hinge pin. That combination, repeated summer after summer, means the fabricated steel components fail before the motor ever does. Cody Beckman has been reading these failures for years, and a cracked Elite hinge tells a story about where the gate was hung and whether water pooled in the seam.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite gate operators cover a few main families: the SL series for slide gates, the CSW and SW series for swing gates, and older Mirage and Viking-era units that still turn up in Houston subdivisions built in the 1990s and early 2000s. The welding and fabrication side isn’t tied to one model number. It’s tied to the steel frame, the hinge assemblies, the rack mounts, and the post brackets that carry the gate itself. When an Elite operator fails electrically, the fix is a board or a limit switch. When the gate sags, the fix is steel work.
For a swing gate, measure the hinge spacing and post diameter before calling. A common Elite gate in Houston uses 4-inch steel posts with welded barrel hinges, but we run into plenty of 3-inch posts on older installs where the original builder skimped. For a slide gate, the compatibility question is whether the rack is welded to the gate frame or bolted, because that determines whether we’re doing a repair in place or moving the gate to re-align the whole run. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question, we’re straightforward: for structural welds and fabricated brackets, we use our own steel and weld work, which matches or exceeds what the original factory bracket offered. For electronic internals, we use genuine Elite parts when available, because mixing aftermarket boards into an Elite operator is how you end up chasing an intermittent fault for three visits.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Elite Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- A gate that sags toward the latch side or drags on the ground. Usually this means a hinge weld or hinge pin has worn or cracked. The operator may still work, but the motor is pushing harder every day and will burn out sooner than it should.
- A squeal or grinding sound when the gate moves, especially when slowing down. In slide gates, this is often a misaligned rack or a cracked rack mount welding point. The sound tells you metal is moving against metal where it shouldn’t be.
- Visible cracks around any welded joint, bracket, or hinge. On an Elite gate, the most common crack we see in Houston is right where the hinge barrel meets the gate frame. It starts as a hairline and turns into a full shear if left through one more storm season.
- The gate latches but wobbles when pushed or pulled by hand. Even if the operator thinks the gate is closed, physical movement means the alignment is off at the post or hinge level, not in the electronics. A dog will find that gap eventually, and so will a Houston wind gust.
- Rust bleeding from seams or welds after heavy rain. You’ll notice orange streaks below a joint. That’s water getting into an unpainted or cracked weld pocket. In Houston’s humidity, it won’t dry out on its own, and the corrosion only accelerates from there.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For most Elite welding and fabrication work in Houston, you’re looking at a range that starts around $180 for a simple hinge replacement or a single bracket re-weld and reaches about $420 for more involved work like realigning a slide gate rack, repairing multiple cracked welds, or fabricating a replacement bracket on site. The biggest driver is whether we can work with the post that’s already there or have to correct the post itself, because a post that’s out of plumb takes extra time and steel to set right.
Every quote includes the part, the labor, and the cleanup. We write the number down before any work starts, and it doesn’t change unless you approve something additional. On the work itself, we stand behind it with the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld fails or the gate drifts out of alignment for any reason related to what we fixed, we come back and make it right. No argument, no fine print.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. There are things you can safely check on your own: the visible bolts around the hinge plate, the condition of the paint where water might pool, whether the gate shows fresh rust streaks after a rain. What you shouldn’t attempt is grinding out a cracked weld or cutting and re-welding a hinge on a gate that’s under tension or carrying the weight of a motor. A gate frame under load can shift without warning, and a partial weld gives way at the worst moment, often while someone’s hand is near it.
If the gate still moves, you can call us before it gets worse. We’ll come out, assess the steel and the welds, and give you a written price. If you’d rather we just handle it, call (361) 256-5955 and we’ll get someone to you the same day in most parts of Houston.
FAQs
On a properly sealed and painted gate, structural welds typically last 10 to 15 years in Houston, but unsealed or factory welds on homes near the coast can start cracking in 5 to 7 years because of the moisture and salt exposure. The main factor is sealant integrity, not the steel itself. Our repairs include proper seam sealing, so the new weld starts with the same protection as the rest of the gate.
A clean crack in a hinge or bracket can often be re-welded and reinforced without replacing the part, and that’s typically the lower-cost fix if the surrounding steel is still sound. If the metal is heavily rusted or the crack runs through more than one plane, we’ll recommend replacement instead, and the price difference is usually under $100 for the part. Give us a call at (361) 256-5955 and we’ll tell you which side of that line your gate sits on.
A single hinge replacement or bracket re-weld usually takes 60 to 90 minutes including setup and cleanup. A full rack realignment or multi-point weld repair can take 2 to 3 hours, and we’ll tell you the expected time when we give you the written quote before starting.
We carry the common steel stock, hinge pins, barrel hinges, and mounting hardware we need for most Elite gate repairs on our trucks, so there’s no week-long wait for a shipped bracket. For unusual or order-only parts like a specific Elite operator mounting plate, we source from our local Houston suppliers, which usually adds only a day or two. Call (361) 256-5955 and we can confirm what’s on the truck for your specific gate.
