FAAC Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Houston Owner’s Guide

We stock and install FAAC-compatible keypads and intercom modules across Houston, with most replacements running between $225 and $480 installed depending on your model. The repair itself typically takes under an hour on site, and we keep the most common FAAC keypad and intercom parts on the truck so the fix usually happens on the first visit. Most Houston owners discover the problem the same way: the keypad stops reading codes at 7 a.m. on a Monday, or the intercom crackles and drops the call halfway through a delivery.

Call (361) 256-5955

FAAC gear is well-built, but Houston’s humidity and heat accelerate failure in the two places these parts are most vulnerable: the membrane or button contacts on the keypad, and the moisture seals on the intercom speaker. The symptom picture is almost always the same. Codes work intermittently at first, then only when pressed hard, then not at all. The intercom speaker gets fuzzier over several weeks until you can’t make out the visitor at all. Neither one fixes itself, and waiting usually means the board behind the buttons takes water as well.

Here’s what to know before you spend a dollar on parts:

  • Model matters more than brand. A FAAC 415 keypad does not swap onto a FAAC 455D operator without a compatibility check, and guessing gets expensive.
  • The installed price is the real price. A $120 keypad online plus a wrong wiring harness equals a dead gate for another week.
  • We quote before we touch. You’ll see the exact number in writing, parts and labor, before any work starts.
  • We’re not affiliated with FAAC. We’re an independent gate service that works on FAAC equipment every week, and we source both OEM and quality aftermarket parts.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

The short answer: most residential and light-commercial FAAC operators sold in the last 15 years. That includes the 400 series (402, 415, 455D), the 770 series, the S418 and S450 models, and the newer 3-series swing and slide operators we see all over neighborhoods like Westbury, Meyerland, and Katy. If your FAAC operator has a wired keypad or an intercom panel mounted at the gate, the chances are we stock or can source the correct replacement within a day.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most homeowners don’t know: FAAC keypads are not universal across their own product lines. The 455D uses a different keypad protocol than the S418, and the intercom wiring differs between standalone panels and those tied into a phone line or VoIP adapter. We identify the right part by the model sticker on the operator arm, not by the keypad itself, because a previous owner may have already installed the wrong replacement once. For FAAC specifically, we recommend OEM parts for the main board and radio receiver, and quality aftermarket for the keypad housing and speaker grille, where the OEM upcharge often buys nothing extra in Houston’s climate.

One more Houston-specific reality: the foam gaskets behind FAAC keypad plates deteriorate faster here than the manufacturer’s lifespan estimate would suggest. Average humidity above 70% from May through September, plus direct sun on an aluminum gate post, means the gasket that should last eight years often fails in four or five. That’s the part we check automatically on every keypad repair, because replacing the buttons without the gasket just invites the same failure next spring.

Signs Your FAAC Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

  • Codes work only sometimes, or need to be pressed hard. This usually means the carbon contacts under the membrane are worn or the membrane itself has hairline cracks from UV exposure. The board is still fine. We can often replace just the membrane and contacts.
  • The keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t move. The keypad is talking to the board, but the relay isn’t firing. That points to a board-level issue or a wiring harness that has worked loose, which is common on gates that see a lot of wind movement across Houston’s open lots.
  • Some keys work while others don’t, even after a new code. This is almost always a damaged trace on the keypad PCB, not a programming error. Replacing the keypad is faster and cheaper than chasing individual traces.
  • The intercom speaker buzzes or drops out when the visitor speaks. Moisture has gotten past the speaker seal, or the speaker cone itself has stiffened in the heat. We see this most often on south-facing gates that bake all afternoon.
  • The call button rings but the audio is one-way. The microphone or the audio driver has failed. On FAAC panels, that’s a replaceable module on most models, not a full intercom swap.

If any of these sounds familiar, write down which buttons are working and which aren’t, and how long the problem has been happening. That detail saves time on the phone and helps us bring the right part the first time.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For FAAC keypad and intercom repairs in Houston, here’s the pricing picture we give on the phone before anyone rolls a truck:

  • Membrane keypad replacement (part only on common FAAC models): $85 to $165
  • Full keypad assembly with new housing and gasket: $140 to $220
  • Intercom speaker or microphone module: $95 to $180
  • Complete keypad + intercom panel replacement: $260 to $480 installed
  • Labor for keypad or intercom swap: $95 to $160, included in the installed prices above

What drives the range is mostly which FAAC series you have. The newer 3-series panels are more expensive to source, while 415 and 455D parts are widely available. Every quote includes the written price before work starts, proper weatherproofing with a fresh gasket, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the part fails within a year and it’s covered under the manufacturer’s or our supplier’s standard warranty terms, we make it right. You’ll also get shoe covers and a quick explanation of what we replaced, which is part of how every Latch and Post job works.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things before you call. Confirm the keypad has power (does it beep at all?), check for visible water damage or cracked plastic on the housing, and if you can open the intercom panel without force, look for loose wires at the speaker terminals. Loose connections account for maybe one in ten intercom problems.

After that, I’d stop. FAAC keypads and intercoms run low voltage, so the electrical risk is modest, but the wiring harnesses are easy to damage and the manufacturer’s wiring diagrams don’t always match what a previous owner actually installed. One crossed wire and you can fry a $250 main board chasing a $90 speaker. If your time is valuable and you’d rather not make three trips to a supply house, call us at (361) 256-5955. We’ll match the part to your operator’s model sticker and have it done in about an hour.
