FAAC Welding & Fabrication: The Houston Owner’s Guide

We stock and install FAAC-compatible weldments and fabricated gate hardware across Houston, and most welded bracket or hinge repairs run between $180 and $420 installed with the written price confirmed before we start. We keep common FAAC weld-on brackets, gate hinge assemblies, and reinforcement plates on our trucks, so a broken weld on a FAAC swing arm or gate leaf is usually handled in a single visit. The way most Houston owners find us: a gate that’s sagged an inch, a hinge that’s torn off the post, or a crack that’s spreading through a weld near the FAAC operator mount.

We’re an independent gate repair service, not affiliated with FAAC. But we work on their equipment every week, and we know which FAAC series take welded fixes and which ones need a bolt-on replacement instead.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

Most of the welding and fabrication work we do on FAAC gates in Houston involves three areas: the hinge mounts on swing-gate leaves, the operator mounting plate where the FAAC piston or articulating arm bolts to the gate, and the post brackets that anchor the whole system. These parts wear differently depending on which FAAC series you own.

FAAC swing-gate operators like the 400, 412, 415, and the newer S418 and S450H models rely on a welded or bolted bracket at the gate leaf. The C720, C721, and S800H sliding-gate operators put more stress on the rack mount and the end stops, which is where we see cracked welds after years of Houston heat cycling. Before calling any shop, look for the FAAC nameplate on the operator body, usually near the release key or on the side of the housing. That plate gives us the exact model and lets us confirm whether we can fabricate on-site or need to order a specific OEM bracket.

For older FAAC 400-series gates in Houston, aftermarket weld-on hinges are often the smarter money than OEM. The OEM parts are fine, but a local fabricator can match the steel thickness and get you a bracket with better weatherproofing for about 40% less. For anything that connects to the operator itself, we lean OEM or an exact-spec equivalent, because a slightly off hole pattern will make the arm bind and wear the gear set inside the operator.

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags noticeably at the latch end. Usually the hinge weld has stretched or cracked where it meets the post, and the gate leaf is now resting its weight on the operator arm instead of the hinges.
  • A hairline crack runs through the paint near a hinge or bracket. Houston’s humidity and temperature swings cause steel to expand and contract, and a crack that looks cosmetic usually runs deeper than the paint.
  • The FAAC operator groans or strains when it moves the gate. When a weld fails and the gate binds, the operator works harder, draws more current, and overheats faster than it should.
  • You can lift the gate by hand and feel free play at the hinges. Loose play means the pivot points are wearing or a weld has broken inside the hinge barrel. Left alone, it escalates to a torn post or a dropped gate.
  • The gate moves side to side when pushed, not just in its swing arc. That side-to-side movement means the hinge pins or the welded mounts have loosened, and the FAAC operator is absorbing movement it was never designed for.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Houston, expect to pay between $180 and $420 for welded FAAC gate hardware replacement, with most hinge bracket or operator plate jobs landing around $260 to $320 installed. The range comes down to three things: whether we can weld on-site or need to remove the gate leaf and work at our bench, how much grinding and prep the old weld needs, and whether we’re rebuilding one hinge or all of them. Steel prices in the Houston market have been steady, so the material cost on most brackets is modest. You’re paying for the labor and the skill of getting the gate aligned so it closes flush.

Every quote we give is a written, line-item price delivered before we strike an arc. That price includes removal of the failed part, surface prep, new steel where needed, welding, paint or cold-galv touch-up, and a cleanup photo before we leave. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the weld fails within a year under normal use, we come back and make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

If you’re asking this question, the answer is almost always call us. Welding on a gate that’s connected to a FAAC operator is not a weekend project. The gate leaf can weigh several hundred pounds, and a dropped gate or a broken weld mid-repair can cause serious injury. Even something that sounds simple, like re-welding a cracked hinge, requires getting the gate perfectly aligned before welding, or you’ll burn the new joint in crooked and the operator will fight that misalignment for the rest of its life.

What you can safely do: inspect the hinges and brackets with a flashlight, take photos of any cracks, and listen to the operator when it runs. If you hear grinding or see the gate flexing at a weld point, call us at (361) 256-5955. Cody Beckman has worked on FAAC operators across Houston, from the Heights to the Ship Channel corridors, and he’ll tell you straight whether that crack is repairable or the bracket needs replacing. “A gate that closes right is one less thing to think about.”
