Viking welding and fabrication repair in Houston typically runs $180 to $430 for hinge and bracket work, and most jobs are finished in one visit. We keep Viking-compatible steel stock, welding gear, and common bracket profiles on our trucks, so we can usually quote the work from a photo and fix it the same day we arrive. The way most Houston owners find us is simple: the gate starts dragging, a weld cracks at the top hinge, or the post has pulled far enough out of line that the gate won’t latch anymore. It’s not something you plan for. It’s something you hear first, usually early in the morning when the gate groans on the way open.
Which Viking Models This Applies To
Viking fabricates a range of welded gate frames, pedestrian gates, and steel post assemblies, and the welding repair work we do applies across their product line: the Viking G-2 and G-4 series swing gates, the V-300 and V-500 commercial frame lines, and the lighter TR-series residential frames that show up in a lot of Houston subdivisions. The compatibility detail that matters most is frame thickness. Viking residential gates are typically 11-gauge or 14-gauge steel, while their commercial frames run heavier, often 8-gauge or thicker. You can identify the gauge by checking the inside lip of the frame rail or the sticker on the hinge post, if it’s still legible after a few Gulf Coast summers.
When we quote a Viking welding repair, we always ask for a photo of the hinge side and a measurement of the gate leaf before we give you a number. That’s because Viking’s hinge barrel spacing changed between the older G-series and the newer TR-series, and using the wrong bracket means the gate hangs a quarter-inch out of line and tears up the post. For most homeowners, a quality aftermarket steel bracket works just as well as the OEM part, and costs 20 to 30 percent less. We’ll tell you honestly when OEM is the better call, which is usually on the heavier G-4 frames where the hinge takes real torque every day. We stock both.

Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate is dragging on the latch side. This usually means the top hinge weld has stretched or cracked, letting the leaf drop. Houston’s clay soil shifts with every rain-and-dry cycle, so the post moves and the hinge takes the strain until the weld gives.
- You can see a hairline crack at the hinge weld. This is the most common Viking-specific failure we see. It starts small, but because the gate cycles hundreds of times each week, the crack propagates fast once it starts.
- The gate vibrates or shudders halfway through its swing. Often a sign that a weld has separated inside the frame rail, not just at the hinge. It sounds like a low rattle, and it gets worse over a few weeks.
- The post has pulled visibly out of plumb. With Viking’s heavier commercial frames, the post base plates sometimes loosen, or the post itself was never set deep enough for Houston’s expansive clay. The welding is often still intact; the foundation is what’s moving.
- Rust scale is flaking at the weld joints. Houston humidity and salt air near the Ship Channel accelerate corrosion at exactly the places Viking welds most heavily. Left alone, rusted weld joints fail years before the rest of the gate.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Most Houston-area Viking welding repairs at Latch and Post Gate Repair Houston fall between $180 and $430 installed. A single cracked hinge weld on a residential G-2 gate usually lands around $180 to $240. Rebuilds involving multiple welds, a replacement hinge bracket, and realignment run $300 to $430. Larger commercial frames with heavy-gauge steel can go higher, and we’ll tell you that before we touch anything.
Every quoted price is written and agreed before work starts, so there’s no surprise invoice at the end. The number includes the welding time, steel or bracket materials, realignment of the gate leaf so it closes flush, and a cleanup pass where we grind down any spatter and address rust around the weld area. Cody Beckman grew up in the San Fernando Valley and trained in industrial mechanics at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before moving his operation to Houston, and he has been reading Viking welds long enough to know when a repair will hold and when it needs a full rebuild instead. You get the straight answer, not the upsell.
DIY or Call Us?
Welding is not a safe DIY job. The heat involved, the high-amperage equipment, and the fact that you’re working inches from a heavy gate leaf on a post that may already be compromised means this is work for someone with the right training and gear. What you can safely do is identify the failure. Check whether the hinge weld is cracked, whether the gate has dropped, and whether the post wobbles when you push on it. Take a photo of the hinge side and a shot of the full gate leaf, and call us. We’ll give you a realistic range over the phone, and we’ll come out to Houston-area homes with the steel and brackets already on the truck. If you want the exact quote before we start, call (361) 256-5955 and talk to a live person.
FAQs
In Houston’s humidity and shifting clay soil, a well-executed Viking hinge weld typically lasts 8 to 12 years before it needs attention, while original factory welds near the coast often fail in 6 to 8 years. The soil movement here is the bigger culprit than the steel itself.
Yes, in most cases we grind out the old weld, re-weld the joint with proper penetration, add a gusset if the hinge carries a heavy gate leaf, and repaint the area. Replacement is only necessary if the frame rail itself has rusted through or the hinge barrel is worn beyond spec.
Most single-hinge Viking repairs take 60 to 90 minutes on site, and multiple-weld jobs run 2 to 3 hours. You’ll have a written price before we begin, and the gate will be fully operational when we leave, not partially rigged.
We stock Viking-compatible hinge brackets, heavy-gauge steel plate and bar stock, and quality aftermarket components from the brands Viking owners typically have: LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls operators often ride on the same frames we weld. We also carry shop equipment for fabrication work that needs to happen off-site rather than in your driveway.
